The long-awaited consultation on changes to the WEEE Regulations has been published with responses required by 7th March.
The consultation comes in two parts:
The main consultation document which covers proposed changes. The primary focus of these is to increase the amount of WEEE collected. This will include the requirement for producers to set up and fund a household WEEE collection service, but there are also proposals for mandatory free take back of appliances by retailers; increased responsibilities for internet sellers; the implementation of a new category and collection target for vapes and the potential for the setting up of a Scheme Administrator that will effectively have an industry management responsibility for the system.
A ‘Call for Evidence’ document which seeks views on a variety of options for consideration including additional cost responsibilities for producers, greater prioritisation of reuse and consideration of eco modulation.
