EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations come into force – 12 Feb 2025

The long-negotiated EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive came into force yesterday, 11 Feb 2025. This will have a significant impact on the UK as:

• Northern Ireland will be subject to the Regulations as from a waste regulation point of view, it is considered part of the EU under the Windsor Agreement.
• It will also be applicable to all UK exporters – including online sellers – into the EU in terms of the types of packaging that will be banned or restricted.
